The BMW X3 sDrive40i and X3 xDrive40i are essentially the same models with one main difference; the xDrive30i features BMW's xDrive intelligent All-Wheel Drive system. The sDrive40i is a rear-wheel drive-only model. If you live in an area with lots of rain and snow or go on any adventures requiring off-road driving, the X3 xDrive30i is ideal. If you do primarily around-town driving in mild conditions, the X3 sDrive30i should be sufficient.
The BMW X3 M and the standard BMW X3 share the same size and many of the same features and characteristics. Where the X3 M differs is in its focus on performance. The powertrain (engine, transmission, suspension, etc.) is all upgraded to provide more power and a more driver-focused experience. The X3 M exterior also features a more aggressive design. The standard X3 models focus more on comfort and efficiency.
The BMW X3 m40i splits the difference between the standard X3 models and the X3 M. The X3 m40i offers a larger, more powerful engine and a performance-focused exterior design like the X3 M. The suspension and driving dynamics are softer on the X3 m40i, though, compared to the X3 M.
